Page from The Illustrated London News showing the newly unveiled memorial to Nurse Edith Cavell which was erected in St. Martin's Place, at the junction of Charing Cross Road and St. Martin's Lane in March 1920. Edith Cavell was a British nurse arrested by the Germans in August 1915 on charges of helping 200 Allied soldiers escape to the Netherlands. She was executed on October 12th 1915.
