The Eleanor Cross - Charing Cross, London. The Twelve Eleanor crosses in England (twelve - originally in wood) were erected by Edward I along the route of Eleanor of Castile's funeral procession from the North of England in 1290. This one is a Victorian replica of the original cross, designed by E. M. Barry. The original was destroyed on the orders of Parliament in 1647 during the Englsh Civil War.
