The Cable Ship 'Faraday' in the mouth of the River Thames. Built by Siemens Bros. in circa 1874 and spent 50 years laying cable. Eventually sold for scrap in 1924, however this proved too tricky, so was sold to the Anglo-Algiers Coaling Company and renamed 'Analcoal' - stored coal in Gibraltar in 1931. Became a Royal Naval store ship in Sierra Leone in 1941 and was FINALLY scarped in South Wales in 1950. The word that springs to mind is "Durable" !!!
