Coloured lantern slide of a view across the Lake of Lucerne from Tell's Chapel. Located on the Tellenplatte on the shore of Lake Lucerne, the chapel sits at the foot of the Axenberg cliffs and across the Bay of Uri. The current chapel was built in 1879 and is decorated with four frescos by Ernst Stuckelberg, in 1880-1882. The chapel marks the site where William Tell is said to have leapt from the boat of his captors and escaped, allowing him to assassinate the tyrant Gessler and initiate the rebellion that led to the foundation of the Old Swiss Confederacy.. Slide number 18 of Box 181 entitled 'Swiss No.1'.
