Amiens - It was here in April of 1918 that the Australians, hurried moved down from Flanders, managed to hold the line against the German offensive 'Michael' which had started on 21st March thus finally stemming the German advance. The fight for V-B lasted from the 4 to the 25th [Anzac Day] when two Australian brigades finaly secured the town and this is commemorated by the Australian national Memorial inside the V-B Cemetery where 2,141 soliders are buried including 731 Australians.. Memorial was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and opened by King George VI in July 1938. Commemorates all 10,770 Australian soldiers who died on Western Front and have no known grave.
