A membership certificate issued by the Women's Co-operative Guild to a Mrs. Biggs, March 1933. The Guild was founded in 1883 to educate women in the principles and practises of Co-operation and to work for the improvement of the status of women, particularly for working-class women. The illustration by Muirhead Bone (1876-1953) resulted from a commission in 1908 from the Guild's Central Committee for a membership card. The image was known as 'The Woman with the Basket'. Presented to Mrs. Biggs, 'from her fellow Guilds women of the Chiswick Branch.' March 13th 1933.
