Voluntary workers (entirely women) in the needlework room of the Marylebone branch of the Red Cross Society in a house in Portman Square lent by Mr Lawson Johnson, where the chief work was providing clothing and surgical requisite for wounded soldiers in hospital. A knitting school was at one end of the room (women can be seen knitting in the foreground) while a table of women at sewing machines can be seen in the distance.
