Brigadier-General Frank Ramsay, D.S.O., C.M.G, son of Brigadier-General W. H. Ramsay of the Queen's Own Hussars. Began his military career in the Middlesex Regiment in 1897. Became aide-de-camp to Sir Arthur Havelock, Governor of Madras in 1898. Saw active service in the Boer War. Served with the Royal Flying Corps in the early part of the First World War and later commanded a battalion of the King's Liverpool Regiment at the Battle of Loos. In command of a brigade of the Irish Division and was the youngest general in the army when appointed to that rank.
