The Red Cross Canteen, Evansville, Indiana, USA at the intersection of Oio Street and Fulton Avenue. During World War II, over a million and a half GIs stopped in Evansville, Indiana while being transported, via the railroads, to and from the war . Often arriving with no money and food, the Red Cross and volunteers welcomed the soldiers and took no money for the food and support offered.
