Title page and frontispiece, Travels through the Interior of Africa, from the Cape of Good Hope to Morocco, by C F Damberger (pseudonym for Zacharias Taurinius, which could also be a pseudonym). The frontispiece is entitled The author in Caffraria, and depicts a European man in shabby clothes talking to two African men. He carries a musket over his shoulder, while they carry spears. The book (one of three) was actually a hoax. It was first published in German; French and English translations followed.
