The Junior Firemen was created in the latter days of the London County Council. Boys aged 16 to 17 were eligible to join the scheme, and subject to passing the training became firemen on their 18th birthday. Part of their training course was to attend a one month outward bound school in the UK. Here junior firemen have to negotiate the high wall at one of the outward bound schools.
