Built by the London County Council (LCC), Vauxhall fire station opened in 1902 and was located on the Albert Embankment (Vauxhall Bridge end). In January 1918 this station suffered one of the worst disasters in the London Fire Brigade when several firefighters died at a fire on the Albert Embankment. Four came from Vauxhall (Station No 94), two from Kennington and one from Clapham. The station closed in 1937 when the new London Fire Brigade Headquarters and Lambeth fire station opened at the eastern end of the Albert Embankment.
