Jessica Mitford (Jessica Lucy Freeman-Mitford, 1917-1996), nicknamed Decca, English author, journalist, communist and political campaigner, one of the Mitford sisters. She became an American citizen in later life, and was involved in a number of civil rights campaigns and in investigative journalism. Seen here in a book shop at a book signing event, with several of her books set out on the table, including The Making of a Muckraker (1979). She is chatting with one of her readers while signing a book for her.
