View of the pavilion housing Peter the Great's Log Cabin, his first residence in St Petersburg. It took three days to build in May 1703, and this date marks the city's foundation. The cabin covers 650 square metres, and contains just three rooms. It has no heating, and was designed to be used in the summer. Peter lived here for five years, while supervising the building of the city. Originally on the north bank of the River Neva, it was moved in 1711 to its present location, 6 Petrovskaia Naberezhnaia. The protective pavilion was built in 1723, and the railings were added in 1874.
