Edward, Prince of Wales, later King Edward VIII and Duke of Windsor, good-humouredly catching a bouquet as he drives in a carriage during Alexandra Rose Day, 1922. The popular prince had just returned from a royal tour to cheering crowds in England and was leaving Paddington station with King George V, the Duke of York and Prince Henry. Alexandra Rose Day was established by Edward's grandmother, Queen Alexandra, to commemorate her the anniversary of her arrival in Britain and to raise funds for charity through the selling of roses.
