Illustration by Mabel Lucie Attwell (1879-1964) showing two of her typically chubby and sweet little girls, sat together whispering or gossiping in a mature fashion about 'men'. Attwell was an immensely popular commercial artist with a career spanning more than fifty years. As well as illustrating many children's books, she illustrated advertisements, produced countless postcards and other ephemera for Valentine's of Dundee and regularly was published in the Tatler during the 1920's. This image is typical of her ability to show children in essentially adult situations.
