Photograph of the experimental turbine steamer 'Turbinia'. Built in 1894 to test C.A. Parsons ideas about turbines, 'Turbinia' famously demonstrated her speed at the Fleet Review of 1897. With a top speed of roughly 35 knots she was significantly faster than any contemporary vessel.
