Cheese Rolling at Cooper's Hill. For over 400 years this Whit-Monday ceremony has taken place to preserve rights of common as grazing-ground. In the 1950's when this picture was taken, it is reported that the ceremony had become so popular that the R.A.C. 'have had to superintend parking'. Today, up to 15,000 people have been known to attend, causing safety and traffic access problems.
