Marie-Adelaide, Grand Duchess of Luxembourg from 1912 to 1919. Marie-Adelaide succeeded her father, William IV and ruled the Duchy during World War One, when it was occupied by Germany. Following liberation and the end of the war, her perceived support for the occupation caused unpopularity in Luxembourg and she abdicated in favour of her younger sister Charlotte. Becoming a nun in Italy for a while, she died of influenza in 1924
