Inhabits vleis, grassland, karoo scrub and agricultural lands. Feeds on bulbs, seeds, roots, invertebrates, fish, frogs, reptiles and small mammals. Damages crops, especially maize, wheat and lucerne. Also known as Paradise Cranes.
