South American / Southern / Patagonian Sealion - To avoid swimming along a stretch of shoreline patrolled by killer whales / Orcas (dorsal fins visible in the image), this sealion female guides her pup high on the beach (Otaria flavescens). Punta Norte, Valdes Peninsula, Patagonia, Argentina. Walking on land is slow and tiring for the sealions and they need to make frequent stops to rest. It is, however, safe.Latin formerly Otaria byronia.
