M77 is a type Sb spiral galaxy in the constellation Cetus. For various reasons, it is much more commonly referred to by its NGC number. NGC1068 is the nearest and brightest example of a type II Seyfert galaxy, showing broad and strong emission lines due to high velocity gas in the galaxy's inner regions. A strong radio source known as Cetus A sits in the nucleus. Messier 77 is a barred spiral galaxy about 47 million light-years away in the constellation Cetus. Messier 77 is an active galaxy with an Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN), which is obscured from view by astronomical dust at visible wavelengths. The diameter of the molecular disk and hot plasma associated with the obscuring material was first measured at radio wavelengths by the VLBA and VLA.
