The "Georges Lemaitre" Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV-5), photographed by an Expedition 40 crew member, approaches the aft port of the International Space Station's Zvezda Service Module on August 12, 2014. Docking occurred at 8:30 a.m. (CDT) as the ATV and the station flew 260 miles over southern Kazakhstan, following a two-week period of free-flight. ATVs are expendable, pressurized, unmanned resupply vehicles developed by the European Space Agency, designed to supply the ISS with various payloads. The ATV-5 spacecraft bears the name of Belgian physicist Georges Lema簾tre, who is considered to be the father of the big-bang theory.
