California Nebula (NGC 1499). Like the puffy clouds on a summer day, hydrogen clouds in space sometimes form familiar shapes. This cloud in Perseus resembles the state of California. The instrument used to produce this image was a Meade 12 Schmidt Camera Telescope with Kodak Tech Pan(luma) and Fuji PF 100(chroma) film. Exposure with a red filter for 60 minutes at the TAS Dark Sky Site (S.E. Oklahoma, USA).
