Zodiacal Light, taken from 10,000 feet up Mt. Haleakala, Maui, Hawaii. This zodiacal glow is a result of small particles orbiting the sun, which scatter its light. It is visible from dark locations on winter evenings and fall mornings in the northern hemisphere. Changes in the zodiacal light brightness as seen at different distances from the sun permit a determination of the spatial distribution of dust in the solar system.
