Lithium carbonate reacts with sulfuric acid. Solid lithium carbonate (Li2CO3) powder is added to a beaker with 0.2 M sulfuric acid (H2SO4). In the reaction, H2SO4 + Li2CO3 -> Li2SO4 + CO2 + H2O, bubbles of carbon dioxide gas (CO2) are produced. This is an example of a carbonate-acid reaction, which in itself is a double-replacement reaction followed by a decomposition reaction.
