Iron reacting with oxygen. A stream of powdered iron is directed into the flame of a Bunsen burner. The tiny particles of iron react with oxygen to form an iron oxide, Fe2O3. The flame and the energy released in the reaction heat the particles to incandescence. You have probably seen this reaction before, in Fourth of July fireworks.
