Ammonia and hydrogen chloride reaction. An opened bottle of concentrated hydrochloric acid (HCl, 32-34%) is placed next to a beaker with 10% ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH) solution. Both solutions evaporate, producing fumes of hydrogen chloride (HCl) gas and ammonia (NH3) gas, respectively. Diffusing gasses react above the containers, producing white solid ammonium chloride: NH3 + HCl -> NH4Cl.
