Potassium permanganate, KMnO4, is a strong oxidizing agent and is reduced when it reacts. Here a ~10^-3M solution of potassium permanganate is added to a beaker containing a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Violet Mn7+ is reduced to nearly colorless Mn2+.
