The Cray X-MP/24 arrived at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in 1984, the Lab's first major multiprocessor. According to Bob Borchers, Associate Director for Computations, the multi-processor would provide some of the additional computing power needed by Lab scientists and engineers.
