Benedict's reagent is a chemical reagent that is used as a test for the presence of reducing sugars and aldehydes, and alpha-hydroxy-ketones (monosaccharides, lactose, maltose, fructose, etc). The reagent consists of sodium carbonate, sodium citrate and copper sulfate.
