Phase transitions. Four frames are used to illustrate phase transitions of water. Left to right: two cubes of ice are placed in a beaker that is heated over a Bunsen burner flame (Frame 1). Ice melts, converting to water (Frame 2), until it is completely melted. After that, water temperature increases (Frame 3) and ultimately reaches boiling point. This is characterized by water vapor bubbles appearing at the bottom and rapidly rising to the top (Frame 4).
