White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, Trinity Site National Historic Landmark. The counter on the right shows a level of 510 millirems of radiation from the concentration of buried Trinitite. The monument marking ground zero is where the first atomic bomb, constructed under the Manhattan Project, was tested on July 16, 1945, at 5:29:45 a.m. Mountain War Time. The second atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, the third on Nagasaki, Japan on August 9 and on August 14, 1945 Japan surrendered ending World War II. Trinity Site National Historic Landmark is located in the White Sands Missile Range, southwest of Socorro, New Mexico.
