Acousto-magnetic electronic article surveillance (EAS) tag. Such tags are placed inside or outside merchandise packages to prevent shoplifting. Inside the tag has a strip of ferromagnetic magnetostrictive metal. When passed through a detector that emits periodic magnetic bursts at 58 kHz the strip starts to vibrate causing a change in magnetization and induces an AC voltage in the receiver antenna.
