The highly portable RadScout detector and analyzer measures energy released from radioactive material and then determines the specific material that produced the energy. It locates nuclear materials using a special germanium crystal to detect minute amounts of gamma rays and neutrons that all radioactive materials emit. Developed within the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) nuclear weapons program.
