Three-dimensional visualization reconstructed from scanned human data of the scapula. The scapula, a flat bone, is the main structure of the shoulder joint. The most freely moving joint of the body, the shoulder has a ball-and-socket structure. The hemispherical head of the humerus, the long bone extending from the shoulder to the elbow, fits into the small, shallow cavity of the scapula allowing for a great range of motion.
