Acid + alkali. Formation of ammonium chloride fog above two containers placed next to each other. One contains hydrochloric acid (HCl), the other ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH). The vapors generated by the two solutions mix in the air above the containers, reacting to form ammonium chloride and water: HCl + NH4OH ------> NH4Cl + H2O This reaction is typical of acid neutralization by an alkali.
