Sapling almendro tree, Dipteryx panamensis, in the lowland rainforest of Selva Verde forest reserve, Chilamate, Costa Rica. This sapling is growing in old-growth rainforest near huge mature members of the species. Also known as the tonka bean, the almendro has been over-harvested in Central America for its hard wood. It is an important habitat for many species, including Great Green Macaws.
