Hygrocybe mushroom. These are the edible fruiting bodies of this rare fungus. The conical caps are greasy and waxy to the touch. There are gills on the underside of the caps (seen at lower left). Spores ripen in these gills and drift on the wind to form a new fungal body or mycelium. This fungus is found in grassy pastures and heaths.
