Lemon horsemint, Monarda citriodora, is a common annual wildflower from eastern KY, MO and KS, s. to AR, TX, NM and Mex. The whorls of pale-colored flowers are subtended by showy pinkish-purple bracts. It is also known as lemon bee-balm. Both its common and scientific names allude to the lemony fragrance this plant exudes when bruised. Photo taken Dallas, TX
