Ripe common or American persimmons (Diospyros virginiana) in Forsythe/Brigantine National Wildlife Refuge, NJ, in autumn. A delicious native fruit eaten by both man and wildlife, but highly astringent until fully ripe. A common small tree throughout much of the eastern US.
