Light micrograph showing the results of mitosis (cell division) in a whitefish cell, where two daughter cells with equal and identical chromosomes have been produced by cytoplasmic cleavage of the parent cell. The two daughter nuclei are now in interphase, a resting stage between successive cell divisions. At this stage the chromosomes in each nuclei are not visible because they are dispersed and do not stain well. Magnification: x315 at 35mm size. Reference: MICROCOSMOS, figure 6.23e, page 122.
