Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM) of an adult male broad mite (Polyphagotarsonemus latus). This mite is found on many species of plants, making it a major garden and agricultural pest. Infestation can cause stunting and twisting of the leaves and flowers, and blackening and death of new growth. The damage resembles that caused by herbicides.
