Salmonella typhimurium. Salmonella live in the intestinal tracts of animals and are transmitted to humans by contaminated foods of animal origin. Symptoms occur 12-72 hours after ingestion of contaminated food and may last 4-7 days. Most individuals experience onset of headache, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, fever and muscle aches.
