European butterflies and four moths (9-12) from De gelede dieren, by Dr. Samuel Constantinus Snellen van Vollenhoven, the entomologist at the Natural History Museum, Leiden, Netherlands, in 1868. Butterflies include the common swallowtail (Papilio machaon, 1); common brimstone (Gonepteryx rhamni, 2); the purple hairstreak (Neozephyrus quercus, 3); green-underside blue (Glaucopsyche alexis, 4); Queen of Spain fritillary (Issoria lathonia, 5); peacock butterfly (Inachis io, 6); ringlet (Aphantopus hyperantus, 7); and large skipper (Ochlodes sylvanus, 8). The moths are the currant clearwing (Synanthedon tipuliformis, 9); elephant hawkmoth (Deilephila porcellus, 10); the lime hawkmoth (Mimas tiliae, 11); and a six-spot burnet (Zygaena filipendulae).
