Ivory-billed woodpecker (Campephilus principalis) on willow oak (Quercus phellos), from the Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands, by Mark Catesby. The ivory-billed woodpecker is classified as critically endangered, but it is probably extinct. Catesby's Natural History, printed between 1729 and 1747, was the first published account of the animals and plants of North America.
