This image shows the torso of a patient covered in crusty keratinized lesions. Rupia is a bacterial skin infection causing an eruption of pus-filled lesions. The term, as here, is occasionally used to refer to scaly, heaped-up, and secondarily infected psoriatic lesions. Psoriasis is an inflammatory condition and means 'to itch.' The characteristic lesions comprise red papules covered by white scales caused by the build up of keratin. .Chromolithograph illustration by Mabel Green and Jonathan Hutchinson, c. 1880.
