Henri Etienne Sainte-Claire Deville demonstrating an experiment in the inorganic chemistry laboratory at the Ecole Normal Superieure, Paris, 1878. Deville (1818-1881) was a French chemist who discovered toluene and anhydrous nitric acid (nitrogen pentoxide).
