Advertisement for Harness' Magnetic Corsets, published around 1892, which shows two woman, one seated and one standing, wearing the corsets. The "very thing" for ladies for an elegant figure and good health, the corset was supposed to "cure weak back." It was manufactured by Cornelius Bennett Harness, whose Medical Battery Company's main product was the electropathic belt, which contained zinc and copper plates that were somehow supposed to generate a health-giving current. In October 1893, the Pall Mall Gazette stopped accepting advertisements from the Medical Battery Company, stating that "The Medical Battery Company has for years past been fattening on a system of fraud and imposture which is absolutely unequalled in the annals of swindling."
