Entitled: "Anna Held in 'The Parisian model' Broadway theater." Helene Anna Held (March 19, 1872 - August 12, 1918), known professionally as Anna Held, was a Polish-born French stage performer and singer, most often associated with impresario Florenz Ziegfeld, her common-law husband. Her vivacious and animated personality proved popular. She was soon known for her risqu矇 songs, flirtatious nature and willingness to show her legs on stage. From 1905, she enjoyed several successes on Broadway which, apart from bolstering Ziegfeld's fortune, made her a millionaire in her own right. During WWI she worked in vaudeville and toured France, performing for French soldiers and raising money for the war effort. She came to be regarded as a war heroine for her contributions, and was highly regarded for the courage she displayed in traveling to the front lines, to be where she could do the most good. She died in 1918 from multiple myeloma at the age of 46. Photographed by Otto Sarony, 1908.
